What is a THR?

The UK government’s regulatory body for medicines (called the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency – MHRA) has put in place a Traditional Herbal Registration (THR) scheme which requires all herbal medicines that are marketed in the UK to hold a THR.

From a consumer point of view, this means that HRI Herbal Medicines, which all have a THR, have gone through a rigorous application process which requires the submission and approval of a wide range of evidence to show the safety and pharmacological properties of the product. This means that consumers can be assured of the quality of the herbal medicine they are purchasing.

Products which hold a THR will have this clearly marked on the packaging. If you are considering using a herbal medicine, make sure it has this symbol and you can be assured of the product’s quality and safety.
