How to Get Glowing Summer Skin with Natural and Herbal Remedies for Acne
Summertime has arrived! Bringing with it glorious sunshine and the heat we’ve been looking forward to. However, for those of us prone to spots and pimples, summer can cause uncomfortable and painful skin breakouts.
You want to be out enjoying all the summer fun, but when you feel self-conscious about your skin and are experiencing the discomfort of acne, this can put a real downer on your mood.
How does the summer affect skin?
Heat and humidity increases the amount of oil the skin produces and cause us to sweat more to regulate our body temperature. Irritants like dirt and dust stick to sweaty skin and can also block pores.
This is not a formula for glowing skin! Happily there are things you can do to minimise the negative impact summer can have on acne-prone skin. Follow our top tips to get your skin glowing naturally:
1. Respond to your hunger with healthy foods
Summer cocktails and snacks can make it difficult to keep sugar and carbs to a minimum.
But Dermotologists state that refined carbohydrates and sugary foods and drinks cause an increase in inflammation in the body which worsens acne. So minimise your sugar intake and make sure you eat complex-carbohydrates.
2. And rinse…
Whether you’ve taken had a dip in a swimming pool or you’ve worked up a sweat on a run, make sure you rinse your skin thoroughly as soon as you can. The chemicals in swimming pools can aggravate inflammatory skin conditions including acne and cause breakouts. Keep your pores clear and free of clogging bacteria.
3. Don’t be slack with the sunscreen
When your skin is already oily and feeling sore, slathering yourself in sunscreen is one of the last things you feel like doing. But it’s an absolute must! Make sure you choose a sunscreen labelled non-comedogenic as this won’t block your pores.
4. Lighten your makeup load
Opt for a lighter make up regime and embrace a fresh, dewy summer look. Swap out your regular foundation for an oil-free tinted moisturiser, a BB (Blemish Balm) or CC (Complexion Correcting) cream as a lightweight alternative. Make sure your mascara is waterproof so it stays put on your lashes, rather than streaking down your cheeks. Of course, always remove your makeup before you go to sleep.
5. Neutrals and naturals
Wearing light coloured, natural fabrics is far more comfortable and cooling than darker coloured synthetic materials. Natural fabrics like cotton and linen, are breathable and wick the sweat away from the skin whereas polyester and nylon don’t allow the skin to breathe and can make you feel hotter and sweatier. Keep colours light and bright as they reflect the sunlight and keep you cooler unlike darker colours which absorb sunlight.
6. Choose herbal remedies for acne
The herbs, Blue Flag and Burdock Root are herbal remedies traditionally used to treat acne and other skin conditions, including mild acne. HRI Clear Complexion is uniquely formulated with both herbs for their antibacterial and detoxifying properties. It is also government approved with a THR license for the highest quality and safety in the market.
